Nigeria's unity is seriously threatened by agitations from IPOB, MASSOB and others in the Niger Delta region
Though leaving very soon, Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, has stated conditions for Nigeria's unity.
Just weeks to leaving office,Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo statehas revealed the two things Nigeria needs to sustain its unity.The country has been facing threats to its unity with various agitations coming from some of its zones.
Mimiko said Nigerians needed perseverance for the country's unityBut Mimiko says the two things needed by the country are perseverance and determination from the people.
The governor noted that the country is facing very harsh economic conditions and security challenges but that the citizens needed determination to scale the hurdle.
The Nigerian Tribune reports him as urging the people to be resolute in ensuring the country does not break.In his message to commemorate the New Year and released by the state commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade, the governor said instead of thinking of breaking up, the people should rather concentrate on strengthening the country’s multi-ethniccomposition which is its major pride.
He also pleaded with politicians to play the game according to the rules.“The political class and the governed have the responsibilities to make the system work because tomorrow promises to be better,”the governor said adding that the country belongs to everybody and not just a few.
He congratulated Nigerians for“the grace to come out victorious from the stormy weather of the year ended,”Mimiko said the year 2016 has come and gone with tales of its enormous challenges to ponder upon.“For us in Ondo state, it was a peculiar year, but we give God the glory for the grace to carry on thus far,”he said.
