There are reports that three Nigerian banks are set to take over telecommunications firm Etisalat today, Wednesday, over unpaid N541.8 billion debt.
An Etisalat experience centre on the Lagos Island, one of the company’s assets that now be forfeited to the banks.

According to the report, the move follows the failure of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to broker a peaceful resolution between Etisalat Nigeria and a consortium of banks.

However, these are not the only banks as there are also some foreign banks that have also been reportedly having a running battle with the telecoms company over the loan facility totaling $1.72 billion (about N541.8 billion) and was obtained in 2015.

The report says the loan involved a foreign-backed guaranty bond and was given to Etisalat to finance a major network rehabilitation and expansion of its operational base in Nigeria.

After failing to service its debt since 2016, the banks reported the company to the Central Bank of Nigeria and communications sector regular NCC.

Etisalat blamed its inability to fulfill its obligation to the banks on the current economic recession in Nigeria but the banks replied that Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) regulations demanding immediate cut down on the rate of their non-performing loans give them no other option.

A senior bank official among those affected said Etisalat management was given option of filing for bankruptcy but it was not taken. This option, he said, would have required the banks just a management to oversee the telecoms firm’s operations.

Although the NCC is not happy with the takeover, a top source at the regulatory body NCC said on Tuesday, March 7 that it had approved the takeover that is now expected to happen Wednesday

Could this be real or can this be true?

Walking down the street of Lagos this afternoon in Ikeja, opposite the police station a crowd gathered and it drew my attention. I went over to see what was happening..

On reaching there I saw this policeman standing with this plancard, wittten on it was " Change Begins With Me. Nigeria Police Force".

And guess what I saw next "BAIL IS FREE" Then I stood there and asked myself "is thus a trap or what?
Is it really the change Nigerians want to see ?
Drop your comment before u go let hear from our fellow Nigerian's......

She captioned the snap: “Congratulations”.

- The attacks in Southern Kaduna by Fulani herdsmen is still a major topic in the polity
- The attacks have bring to the fore, the challenges of indigenes of Kaduna state
- The issue is now attracting global attention
A report by www.worldwatchmonitor.org has detailed how Fulani herdsmen have seized and occupied 16 villages in southern Kaduna with their cattle and families, after terrorising Christian natives.
According to the report, there were a string of other attacks against indigenous Christian communities in southern Kaduna over the 2016 Christmas period.
“The gunmen came to my village. As they entered, they were shouting and chanting ‘Allahu akhbar’ [Allah is the greatest], and in the twinkling of an eye, 45 people were killed.”
“They shot at pigs and stole goats, sheep and grain, while they burnt churches and houses,” said a survivor, who did not wish to be named.
Between 7-12 January, a large number of heavily-armed Fulani herdsmen targeted the Christian communities of Kagoro and Kafanchan, two towns where families have been hosting people displaced by previous attacks, local sources told World Watch Monitor.
The attackers destroyed most of the surrounding villages and farms, while countless bodies were abandoned in the bush because people were too scared to collect them after those who tried to do so were attacked.
According to the leadership of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, a total of 808 people were killed in 53 villages across four local government areas in southern Kaduna from April to the end of 2016.
The church leaders said 57 people were injured; farm produce estimated at N5.5 billion (US$18m) was destroyed, and a total of 1,422 houses and 16 churches were burnt down.
Conflict in southern Kaduna has a long history more than the issues of indigenes versus settlers, Christians versus Muslims or farmers versus herdsmen, Christians say it’s about marginalisation and exclusion.
Since colonial times, there has been the imposition of Hausa-Fulani Muslim chiefs over minority-Christian groups. Many indigenous ethnic groups have been forcefully brought under the Sokoto Caliphate.
Their traditional chiefdoms have been turned into emirates and their chiefs are forced to be Muslims. These chiefs, most of the time, control the right to allocate land to Muslims and Hausa-Fulani herdsmen, stifling the indigenous right to land.
As tribes and ethnic groups become more politically aware in southern Kaduna, many indigenous communities say they want to rectify this historical injustice.

Some Gambians have taken to the social media to express their joy over the response from West African bloc and the world in ensuring true democracy reigns in The Gambia.

Most of them have specifically thanked Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari and the ECOWAS in general for beingtheir “guardians.”
Gambians took to social media, particularly the Twitter which had recorded more than 200,000 tweets in praise of Nigeria, Senegal and ECOWAS.On of the tweets said: “Nigerian Air force pilots performed recce flights over Jammeh’s Kenilai Family Farm, Denton Bridge linking Banjul & Int’l Airport.”

Adama Barrow ‏@BarrowOfficial1, said: “Amtaking this opportunity to thank the entire electorate of the #Gambia and Gambians in the Diaspora for making this day possible.”On Jan. 9, Buhari lead two other West African presidents and other citizensto meet with Jammeh.Buhari in his capacity as mediator in chief traveled with his counterparts, Sirleaf and Koroma , as well as the immediate past President of Ghana, John Mahama, to the Gambia to meet with Jammeh.
But those talks yielded no results.Embattled Yahaya Jammeh has remained adamant, refusing to cede power after being defeated by the erstwhile businessman-turned politician, Adama Barrow in the December 1 election held in the country.
Although Jammeh had calledhis opponent to concede defeat, however, a week later,he made a volte face, refusing the outcome of the election, a stand he has adamantly maintained till now.
Thousands of Gambians and tourists fled the country as the tension kept rising, especially following the threat from ECOWAS that a military ousting would be carried out against Jammeh should he refuse to cede power peacefully.
But, despite the peaceful negotiations by the ECOWAS bloc to persuade Jammeh to step down peacefully, he hasstayed put and has refused to accept Barrow as his successor.
West African leaders on Friday said they would travel once again to The Gambia in a last-minute effort to convince election loser Yahya Jammeh to cede power, a media report said.
It said the presidents of Liberia and Guinea were expected to arrive in Banjul to give Jammeh, who ruled the small West African nation for 22 years with an iron fist, a last chance to respect the constitution.
The announcement came hours after military forces of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) crossed from Senegal into Gambia in an attempt to search for Jammeh. However, Adama Barrow whohad equally fled The Gambia to neighbouring Senegal for his safety has been sworn-in as the new President of The Gambia.
In his inaugural speech, dressed all in white, 51-year-old Barrow waved to a crowd of thousands of jubilant Gambians during his inauguration, which officially ended Jammeh’s 22-year rule.
“This is a victory of the Gambian nation. Our flag will now fly high among those of the most-democratic nations of the world,” he said, demanding loyalty from his armed forces.

Politicians are making money from southern Kaduna killings - Balarabe Musa

Former governor of Kaduna state has warned politicians and elites advising southern Kaduna people to defend themselves to desist from issuing such advice- According to the ex-governor, advice like that will only aggravate the ongoing crisis in southern Kaduna- He also advised people to stop accusing the Hausa/Fulani of being behind the crisis in the state as such accusation could be perilous and incite more attacks.
Former governor of Kaduna state, Balarabe Musa, has accused politicians and the elite of exploiting the southern Kaduna killings to make money and advance their political interests, while the victims wallow in trauma.Musa, who stated this while speaking with journalists at his residence on Thursday, January 19, warned against inciting the people of Southern Kaduna against each other.
According to a report by Premium Times, Musa warned that the call by politicians for the people of the state to defend against their attackers will only aggravate the crisis in the state.
Musa said:“The Southern Kaduna people must resist incitements from some people in the Southern part of Nigeria who are misadvising them to carry arms against each other.“Accusing the Hausa/Fulani of being behind the attacks in the area is very dangerous.
When you are accusing Hausa/Fulani and their religion, it will end up being destructive.
Let’s come together as one and deal with those criminals."Musa called on the entire people of Kaduna state, irrespective of their religion and ethnicity, to get together asbrothers and sisters to end the killings, which he said started since 1986.
He called on Governor Nasir El-Rufai to revive companies in southern part of the state which according to him,"will address the high poverty and backwardness of the zone.
"He said:“The Southern Kaduna elites collaborated with their Northern Kadunaelites to destroy the industries built in the zone like Kachia Ginger factories.“Southern Kaduna elites are the problem of the area.
They prefer money and appointments rather than to governthe state.”He said he did not share the view that President Muhammadu Buhari and Mr. El-Rufai were behind the killings, stressing that he was also a victim of cattle rustlers in the northern part of thestate.“Those elites calling for self defence in Southern Kaduna are making the situation worse and self-destructive.”
Meanwhile, suspected armedherdsmenopened fire in Samaru Kataf, a busy market in Zangon KatafLocal Government Area of Southern Kaduna, on the evening of Tuesday, January 17, killing three and injuring five.

State television announced that the ministers of finance, foreign affairs, trade, and environment resigned late on Monday night.

The political crisis in The Gambia escalated on Tuesday as four ministers resigned from President Yahya Jammeh's government.
State television announced that the ministers of finance, foreign affairs, trade, and environment resigned late on Monday night. Their resignations came a week after Minister of Communications Sheriff Bojang stepped down from his post.
Mr. Jammeh's term expires on Thursday, January 19, when President-elect Adama Barrow is scheduled to be inaugurated. But the Gambian president has maintained that he would not hand over power unless the Supreme Court upholds the results of the election.
It would be recalled that Mr. Barrow defeated the incumbent in the December 1, 2016 presidential election. Mr. Jammeh initially conceded defeat the following day only to reverse course a week later. He proceeded to appeal the results to the Supreme Court, which has postponed its ruling due to a lack of judges available to hear the case.
Mr. Jammeh's refusal to accept the results of the election has plunged the small West African country into a political crisis.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has urged Mr. Jammeh to hand over power to the president-elect, but has said it is prepared to stage a military intervention to remove him by force.
"The chiefs of defense staff of West African countries met yesterday (Monday) to discuss strategies on the best way to get Yahya Jammeh out if he refuses to hand over power," a Nigerian military source disclosed to Reuters.
"Some West African countries will be contributing troops, including Nigeria, for the operation," he added.
Earlier on Tuesday, Nigeria deployed a warship to The Gambia in anticipation of a military intervention.
State of emergency
Faced with threats of military intervention, Mr. Jammeh declared a 90-day state of emergency on Tuesday, BBC reports.
He announced this on state television, condemning foreign interference in The Gambia's affairs.
Mr. Jammeh said that "any acts of disobedience to the laws of The Gambia, incitement of violence and acts intended to disturb public order and peace" are banned.
The declaration came after the Gambian National Assembly passed a motion condemning Senegal and the African Union for their "unlawful and malicious interference" in the country's political affairs.
