Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed a cake with his mum and son as he celebrated his 32nd birthday.

The Real Madrid superstar was given an aptly-timed weekend off from football as Los Blancos’ trip to Celta Vigo was postponed this weekend, allowing him to spend his birthday with his family.

Ronaldo’s mother posted a picture of herself, Ronaldo and his son, Cristiano Jr, behind an extravagant birthday game on her Instagram account.

She captioned the snap: “Congratulations”.

Zinedine Zidane’s men have gone 40 games without defeat but Sevilla ended their Incredible Records tonight as they lose 2 – 1 to Sevilla. Real Madrid have lined up with a 3-5-2 as they take on Sevilla for a second time in three days, this time in La Liga. Cristiano Ronaldo is back in the side – he loves scoring against this team, he has 22 goals in 15 games! But Sevilla are a different prospect this year under Jorge Sampaoli, whose high-intensity tactics have lifted them to third in the table just two points behind Barcelona in second with a game in hand. The league leaders will take some beating though – they’re on a 40-match streak without losing a game in all competitions.

Michy Batshuayi is not the right man to provide back-up for Diego Costa at Chelsea, Ray Wilkins has told Premier League Daily. The Belgium striker cost £33m in the summer and has four goals from as many starts following his FA Cup strike against Peterborough on Sunday. But Conte is yet to start Batshuayi in the Premier League even in Costa’s absence, and Sky sources say a swap deal involving Swansea’s Fernando Llorente could be on the cards this month. Wilkins, a former Chelsea captain and assistant manager, watched the forward in action against Peterborough and gave his verdict in the Sky Sports News HQ studio on Monday. Asked if Batshuayi is adequate cover for the league’s top scorer Costa, he said: “No, in my humble opinion. “Yesterday when I watched him he was like a guy starved of playing for the first team, and he was out to impress so badly. He really wanted to do well – he ran everywhere, his ball control was pretty poor when it was played up to him. “I don’t think when you’ve got Costa in the type of form he’s in, that Batshuayi would be the answer to come in. “When they played Pedro, Willian and Eden Hazard up front [when Costa was suspended] I was questioning why Conte didn’t play Batshuayi as a natural striker, and now i can see why he didn’t – because he doesn’t have the control of the ball that the other players have.” Wilkins also questioned the 23-year-old’s mentality, saying: “When you come into big clubs it’s not only about your footballing ability, it’s how you handle the mental capacity.

Gabon will this month become the third consecutive hosts of the biennial Africa Cup of Nations who were not originally awarded the tournament. Strife-torn Libya were replaced by South Africa in 2013 and Morocco withdrew as 2015 hosts over Ebola virus concerns with Equatorial Guinea stepping in at short notice. Continuing post Moamer Kadhafi-era violence forced 2017 hosts Libya to withdraw again, opening the way for 2012 co-hosts Gabon to stage the tournament on their own. The Cup of Nations runs from January 14 to February 5 at four venues in the capital Libreville, Port-Gentil, Franceville and Oyem. Stade de l’Amitie The 40,000-capacity stadium in coastal capital city Libreville hosts the opening game between Gabon and Guinea-Bissau and eight other fixtures, including the final. It also staged the 2012 Cup of Nations decider in which Zambia stunned the Ivory Coast. Stade de Port-Gentil World superstar Lionel Messi laid the foundation stone at one of two 20,000-seat stadiums built for the 2017 tournament. The Barcelona and Argentina icon was accompanied to the ceremony in the coastal oil hub by President Ali Bongo Ondimba, a keen football fan. Stade de Franceville Tucked away in the southeast corner, the 22,000-seater stadium was among four stadiums used for the 2012 Cup of Nations, which Gabon and Equatorial Guinea co-hosted. Guinea thrashed Botswana 6-1 in Franceville to match the record winning margin for a finals game. Stade d’Oyem The other new 20,000-capacity Cup of Nations stadium is situated in northwestern town Oyem and hosts a group that includes defending champions the Ivory Coast and serious title contenders Morocco, plus a quarter-final.

“It is annoying to be on the bench, it is really annoying,” he told SFR Sport .“But this is a test I have to get through. That’s the way things go when you are still developing as a player and it forms your mentality.

“It is difficult because the only thing you want is to get out there and help the teamand you cannot do that when you are on the bench. But that is a choice I have to accept.“I know that the people expect a lot from me, but perhaps they forget that I am still young.“Everybody can think whatever they want and they can say what they want, that does not change anything for me.”

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has called for a life ban from the Olympic Games for all figures proven to be involved in the manipulation of doping samples. The call which came as part of the German’s most clear condemnation of Russia since the allegations of state sponsored doping at the Sochi 2014 Winter Games surfaced in May. The IOC claim to still be unaware of the findings of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-commissioned investigation by Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren, which was unveiled in London Friday.
As such, Bach said he “cannot speculate” before offering a “private opinion” in which he compared the case with the lifetime bans an IOC Disciplinary Commission he headed gave to six Austrian biathletes and cross-country skiers found guilty of attempted blood doping at Turin 2006. “If, for instance, you would have an athlete being part of such a manipulation and benefiting in the Olympic Games, my consequences would not differ from the ones we took under my chair in the Disciplinary Commission concerning the Austrian athletes in the time of Turin,”

he said. “If an athlete or an official would be part of such a system, I would not like to see the person again at any Olympic Games in whatever function. Not as an athlete, as a coach or as an official. This, for me, would represent such aggravated circumstances. For me the logical consequence would be a life ban from the Olympic Games,” he stressed.

Abuja – Super Falcon’s Media Officer, Remi Sulola, on Monday debunked claims that the team threatened to boycott the forthcoming 2016 African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) over unpaid bonuses and allowances. Sulola said in Abuja that recent media report that the team threatened to boycott the event was false

The report had stated that the players were protesting against non-payment of their bonuses and allowances by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after their qualifying matches, especially the encounter with Teranga Lionesses of Senegal in April. According to the report, the NFF had cited financial challenges as the reason for the delay in the payment. Sulola confirmed that the players had not been paid some allowances but said that they were training hard for the competition. “It is true that they are being owed, but the NFF had promised them that their money will be paid before the tournament begins.

“It is false and untrue for anyone to say that they had threatened to boycott the event or their trainings. “Money is actually the last thing on the players mind right now, because they are focused on defending and returning home with the trophy. “Most of the home-based players who are invited to camp did not participate in the qualifiers; those who were fully involved are the foreign-based, whom we are still expecting,” she said. Nigeria is in Group B with arch-rivals Ghana, Mali and Kenya in the tournament. The 10th AWCON is billed for Cameroon from Nov. 19 to Dec. 3.

Abakaliki – Football fans in Ebonyi have advised the Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, to field Victor Moses in the right wing-back position during the forthcoming Russia 2018 qualifier against Algeria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Moses continued his rich form in that position during Chelsea’s EPL match against Southampton on Sunday under its new 3-5-2 tactical formation.

Moses in the first half provided the assistance for Belgian Eden Hazard to score the first goal before Diego Costa’s sublime finish in the second half earned Chelsea a 2-0 win.

The fans told NAN on Monday in Abakaliki that Moses’ rich form should be effectively utilised to disorganise the North African team’s fluid pattern of play.

Edmund Ndukamma, a former Rangers International FC of Enugu defender, remarked that fielding Moses in that position would immensely benefit the Eagles against Algeria.

“Moses will help the Eagles’ attack pile pressure on the Algerian defence from the right wing thereby disorganising their quick-pass movements from its lethal left-wing.

“He will also assist the Nigerian right full back which was problematic against Zambia in the team’s first qualifier in Ndola,’’ he said.

Nicodemus Omenka, former Ebonyi Commissioner for Youths and Sports, corroborated Ndukamma’s claim, noting that Moses would play a vital role in the Algerian match.

“He is one of Nigeria’s hottest players in Europe currently and his presence would psychologically affect the Algerians who are also grappling with their coaching problems.

“His blistering runs from the right wing will give Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi more room to operate, while also assisting the defenders to curtail the Algerians’ incursions,’’ he said.

Jude Nlemchi, Colombia FC of Abakaliki player, advised Rohr to place emphasis on current form in selecting players to be fielded against the Algerians.

“Players such as Moses, Iwobi, Iheanacho among others should be fielded against Algeria as the system worked against Zambia in Ndola.

“The Algerians play a `fast-paced’ style and the Eagles need fit, aggressive and skilful players to disorganise their strategy for the much needed win,’’ he said.

Chief Silas Mgbebu, a businessman and soccer enthusiast, urged the Eagles to approach the Algerian match with serious determination as if they were playing in a cup final.

“The players should replicate the level of commitment for their clubs in the Algerian match to ensure the team achieves the much needed victory.

“Winning the match will make them the `group of death’ leaders before qualification hostilities resumes in 2017 with the accompanying psychological edge over their opponents,’’ he said.

Mrs Scholastica Igwe, a civil servant and soccer admirer, warned that the euphoria of the Algerian match if not properly handled, might affect the Eagles.

“The only sporting news on the airwaves currently is the match with Algeria and the euphoria should not be allowed to pile undue pressure on the players and officials,’’ she said.
